Mackie Designs Inc. Announces First Quarter Earnings

April 14, 1998 – Woodinville, Wash. – Mackie Designs Inc. (Nasdaq: MKIE), today announced revenues and income for first quarter ended March 31, 1998. Revenues for the first quarter were $17.4 million, compared with $16.8 million for the comparable quarter in 1997. Net income for the quarter was $1.2 million, or $0.09 a share, compared with net income of $1.1 million, or $0.09 a share, in the first quarter of 1997.

"Results for the first quarter were in line with expectations, and we are optimistic about the year ahead. The Digital 8•Bus is in beta testing, and we believe that it will ship to distributors and dealers in the second quarter," stated Chief Operating Officer Roy Wemyss. "We have harnessed resources to achieve our management team's business objectives, and believe we have built the solid foundation upon which to develop and launch new products."

"Market response to new products introduced in 1997 has been very favorable," Wemyss continued. "Combined with the management actions implemented in 1997 and our continued investment in R&D, we look forward to a strong year for Mackie in 1998."
